THE HISTORY OF THE PEOPLE OF AHANTA BY JUSTICE ANKAH-AMPONG SUPERVISED BY MADAM CHRISTINA INSAIDOO
Generally, there is a growing concern among scholars particularly Historians over the lack of adequate information on the people of Ahanta. Ahanta, a component of the Akan tribe have been mistakenly been identified as Wassa to their north, Nzemas to their West and Fantes to their East. This has gradually led to the extinction of their identity. The gravity of this is evidenced in the fact the languages Nzema and Fante are taught across the length and breadth of the Ahanta land. Since it shares its borders with these two prominent Akan tribes, Schools in Ahanta communities close to Nzema such as Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High at Agona learn Nzema whilst Ahanta communities sharing its borders with Fantes such as Sekondi-Takoradi and Shama also learn the Fante language respectively.
