The most cherised traditional dish is “FomFom” and the best of it is the one prepared with red Maize known as “Abele Azani”. This is usually served with pepper and fried fish or stew with “Kakoo’. It is held in high esteem because according to oral tradition, the Abele Azani is believed to cure diseases/sicknesses and grants long life and good health. It is also a belief shared by Ahantas that it has a spiritual connotations and ancestral connections which tightens the bond between the living and the dead. Furthermore, they consider it as a weapon to drive away evil spirit from homes, serves as a means of fortification against malevolent forces and brings them good luck planting and harvesting season.
